What has to be done for opening other web links in background while using a web page through Safari on iPad 2?

While accessing a web page via Safari on my iPad 2, I want to open other links in the background like in Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer etc. How can I make it possible?

Navigate through the home screen of your iPad after tapping over the ‘Home’ button. Then, tap the ‘Settings’ icon visible over there. Scroll through the left side of the list appears on the screen and hit the ‘Safari’ option. On doing so, you can get into the Safari settings. You can find ‘General’ label on the top part of the settings. Check whether you can view ‘Open New Tabs in Background’ item along with a switch under that label. If so, toggle that switch until it displays ‘ON’ mode. From then on, you can open new links in background by tapping the ‘Open in New Tab’ option pop up on the screen while holding the Safari web page.
