Not able to get rid of backup alert from iPad 3 upgraded to IOS 6

I keep getting the message “This iPad hasn’t been backed up in 7 weeks” while unlocking my iPad 3 running on IOS 6. My iPad used to back up the data while plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi network and back up happened on yesterday too. When I try to clear off the alert by tapping on ‘OK’ button, my iPad get locked up and not changing back to normal mode. How can I avoid backup alert and boot up my iPad in normal mode?

Use the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons to reset your iPad. Hold down both buttons while pressing them together for at least 10 seconds. If you catch the sight of red slider during this period, then simply ignore it. Continue to hold the buttons until you can see Apple Logo on the screen. Once the home page pops up on the screen, you can force a back up using iCloud. Get into home screen for that by tapping the ‘Home’ button and hit the ‘Settings’ icon. Choose ‘iCloud’ from the available list and turn on iCloud back up by sliding the switch next to it into ‘ON’ mode.
