hi friend,
Error 14 occurs due to these reasons Custom firmware update fail (PwnageTool until 4.0.1). You have to restore the device with a custom firmware. Update to a custom firmware isn't working. Device isn't bootable. 2
Ther may be USB Problem. Check the USB connection and try other direct ports or maybe the USB cable is an older one. Device isn't bootable.
If You're trying to 'update' to a beta firmware instead of performing a restore. Device is still bootable if you kick it out of recovery mode.
If Rebooting your Mac or PC may resolve this issue.
If Root file-system partition size was set too small in the ramdisk's options plist.
hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii,
well if u are upgrading to or installing ios5 through itunes follow the procedure
1 delete the previously downloaded software update file from ur system
2 restart ur itunes and begin ur update again
if u are trying to restore by using the downloaded IOS 5 IPSW file
then
first use the download messenger like IDM and re-download the IPSW file and restore to this newly downloaded IPSW file via itunes
i hope it may work this time ......

This error was encountered mainly due to the issue that it indicates an failure of the Custom Fireware update failed.
You have to restore the device with a custom firmware
Even if you persists with the same issue then you have to check your USB ports.
For this connect your iPad to and PC then sync with the iTunes.
Check whether the processes is going or not.
If the PC was rebooting then your issue was solved.
