Adding a file to iTunes library for syncing with iPad 2

I want to add a file from my PC to iTunes library to transfer it to my iPad 2. Even though I know how to sync files from iTunes library to my iPad, I have no idea about adding files into it. What steps should I take for accomplishing this?

Launch iTunes on your PC and wait until the iTunes screen appears on the screen. Go to the top part of the screen and click the ‘File’ option afterwards. You can then view a set of options become visible on the screen. Select ‘Add to Library’ option from that group of options. Browse the file you want to add into library and make single click on it. Press the ‘Open’ button afterwards so that it will be transferred into iTunes library. It is also possible to add multiple files at the same time by selecting all of them with mouse click before clicking the ‘Open’ button.
